Release Candidate 1 · v1.0.0

AstroIndexer 1.0 is almost here.

Release Candidate 1 opens the final validation phase before the full 1.0 launch, targeted for the end of summer 2026 — and it is the biggest step yet.

This is a major milestone. RC1 is not another beta drop — it is the build we believe is ready to become 1.0, out in your hands for one last round of real-library validation. It lands a plate solver built directly into AstroIndexer, a QA-driven stacking workflow that drives both Siril and PixInsight, an image object detector, brand-new iOS and Android companions, the Inspect Loupe, an expanded Backfocus Manager, and share-ready image export, on top of dozens of workflow refinements.

AstroIndexer's native plate solver showing a WCS solution with SIP distortion coefficients and distortion vectors overlaid on a solved frame
Headline feature

A plate solver, built into AstroIndexer

No more shelling out to an external tool. RC1 ships AstroIndexer's own plate solver — it detects the star field, computes the WCS solution, and stores native SIP distortion coefficients right alongside your frame. In the latest raw-light benchmark it posted an 18.6% lower median solve time than ASTAP.

  • Native WCS with a full SIP distortion model, captured per frame
  • No external astrometry.net or ASTAP install to configure or maintain
  • Distortion vectors and pixel-scale readout right in the Inspect view
  • Solutions stored with your library, ready for framing and mosaics

The Inspect Loupe magnifying stars at 1:1 on a frame of Arp 320, with live quality and PSF metrics and an RGB histogram alongside
New

Pixel-peep any frame with the Inspect Loupe

A magnifier loupe for your subs. Move over the frame to inspect stars at 1:1, read live quality, PSF and PixInsight-parity metrics, and check the histogram — all without leaving the gallery.

  • Live FWHM, HFR, eccentricity and SNR as you move across the frame
  • PixInsight-parity metrics (PSFSNR / PSFSW) side by side
  • Per-pixel RGB readout and an RGB histogram with log and percentile toggles
  • Fit, 1:1 and WCS inspect modes for fast triage
AstroIndexer stacking workflow with QA frame buckets, filter balance, and a Siril processing sequence for a HOO plus RGB stars narrowband composition
New

One-click stacking, for Siril and PixInsight

AstroIndexer reads your QA scores, sorts every sub into Excellent, Good, Acceptable and Reject buckets, and balances your filters for you. Then it hands the keepers straight to a stacker — no manual set-up, no juggling scripts.

  • QA-driven frame selection into Excellent / Good / Acceptable / Reject buckets, filter-balanced
  • Automatic PixInsight stacking via AutoIntegrate, with RC Astro tool detection (BlurX / StarX / NoiseX)
  • Automatic Siril stacking via AstroIndexer's own workflow scripts
  • Ready-made sequences for OSC, broadband (LRGB / RGB) and narrowband (SHO / HOO)
  • Presets for every goal: Default Stack, Deep Stack, Sharp Focus
AstroIndexer Object Detector annotating 50 catalogued galaxies on a frame of NGC 660, with a findings table listing class, catalogue and position
New

See every object in the frame

Point the Object Detector at any solved frame and it annotates every catalogued object it finds — galaxies, clusters and more — cross-matched against LEDA, SDSS, MCG and 2MASX, with a keep / reject findings table and per-object thumbnails.

  • Catalog-assisted detection against LEDA, SDSS, MCG, 2MASX, NVSS and more
  • Every finding annotated on the frame and listed with class, catalogue and position
  • Uses your WCS solution for accurate identification
  • Keep or reject detections, then export the findings
AstroIndexer Image Overlay Export showing a grid of processed objects with acquisition and branding overlays, ready to share
New

Export share-ready images with overlays

Turn your processed results into images that are ready to post. Image Overlay Export lays acquisition details, object info, a minimap and your own branding straight onto each frame, then batch-exports your whole library at the size you choose.

  • Acquisition, object, minimap and branding overlays
  • Batch export across your whole library at a chosen width
  • Signature preset for a consistent, branded look
  • Sorted by best score, ready to share
The Backfocus Manager showing a to-scale 3D image train from optic to sensor, with an under / within / over tolerance band and a backfocus summary
Expanded

Dial in your imaging train before you go out

The Backfocus Manager grew up. Build your train from a vendor inventory, see it drawn to scale, and get the exact spacer combination to hit each sensor's required backfocus — with an under / within / over band so you know instantly when you are in tolerance.

  • To-scale image-train diagram from optic to sensor plane
  • Filter-glass compensation folded into the spacing math
  • Spacer solver that names the combination to reach target backfocus
  • Export a checklist to take to the scope
The AstroIndexer mobile companion app showing the M 96 object page with a preview image, capture stats, and Scan / QA / ML pipeline status
New platform

Your library, in your pocket

AstroIndexer now has companion apps. Browse your catalogue, check per-object capture stats, and see Scan, QA and ML status on any target — from the field or from the couch.

  • Per-object capture summary: total exposure, frames, rig and date range
  • Scan / Rig / QA / ML / Image pipeline status at a glance
  • Object previews synced from your indexed library
